Medical Risk

Medical provision.
Independently assessed.

Medical risk assessments that establish what your production needs before you commission the cover. Clear, proportionate requirements, informed by the risks of the shoot.

An independent starting point

Define the need.
Then commission
the provision.

When a supplier recommends the same medical provision it is quoting to deliver, there can be a commercial conflict of interest.

That does not make the recommendation wrong. It makes an independent assessment valuable: a clear view of the production’s needs, with the reasoning and assumptions recorded.

We assess the relevant medical risks and develop requirements for the numbers, skills, equipment, coverage and response arrangements needed. The aim is proportionate provision that addresses both the risk of under-provision and unnecessary over-provision.

The production’s risks should define the requirement.

What informs the assessment

The whole production.
The right clinical capability.

01

The people & the activity

Understand who may need care and how the planned work changes the medical risk.

  • Cast, crew and others exposed to the activity
  • Planned action, physical demands and higher-risk work
  • Relevant welfare and medical planning considerations
02

The location & the schedule

Assess the practical effect of where and when the production is working.

  • Access, remoteness and working environment
  • Split units, working hours and continuity of cover
  • Weather, travel and response constraints
03

Capability & resources

Specify the capability and resources required, rather than assuming every provider package is interchangeable.

  • Appropriate skills and staffing
  • Equipment, facilities and deployment
  • Coverage, resilience and escalation arrangements
04

Response & onward care

Consider what happens when someone needs assessment, treatment or transfer.

  • Communications and access for responders
  • Transfer and onward-care arrangements
  • The interface with local emergency services

A useful outcome

A requirement
you can explain.

Our medical risk assessments bring suitably qualified clinical and operational input to the planning decision. We record the basis of the recommendation so production can commission against a defined brief.

Requirements can be revisited when the script, activity, locations or schedule change.

01

A documented medical risk assessment

The relevant risks, planning assumptions, information gaps and factors affecting the recommended provision.

02

A clear specification for providers

The required capability, staffing, equipment, coverage and response arrangements, with the reasons for the recommendation.

03

A basis for comparing proposals

A consistent brief to review provider quotations against and identify where proposals meet, exceed or fall short of the assessed requirement.

04

A review and escalation framework

The circumstances that should prompt reassessment and the decisions that need additional clinical or operational input.

Common questions

Commission with
confidence.

Can you review a provider’s proposed level of cover?

Yes. We can assess the production’s medical risks and review the proposed provision against a clearly defined requirement. We explain where the proposal aligns with the need and where further information or changes are warranted.

Will the assessment always reduce our medical spend?

The assessment may identify that less provision is justified, that the proposed cover is appropriate, or that additional capability is needed. The objective is a sound, proportionate requirement that addresses the production’s actual risks.

When should we arrange the assessment?

Ideally before commissioning medical cover, while the script, activity and locations can still inform the specification. We can also review existing arrangements or reassess when plans change.

Can you help with medical authenticity on screen?

Yes. Our Specialist Advisory service brings current specialist and ED nurses, and current and former frontline ambulance paramedics and crews, into script review, rehearsals and on-set technical advice.
